Metal powder coatings refer to various powder coatings containing metal pigments. Because metal powder coating can show bright, light luxury decorative effect, it is very suitable for furniture, jewelry and cars and other indoor and outdoor objects. In the manufacturing process, the current domestic market mainly uses the dry mixing method, and the international bond fixing method is also used.
Commonly used metal pigments are: aluminum silver powder pigments, pearlescent pigments, copper and gold powder pigments. The products made of different colors greatly enrich the types and decoration of powder coatings.

The thickness of aluminum powder particle size in aluminum silver powder shows different functions, which can be divided into different grades from 5um to 75um, and aluminum pigments with different particle sizes have different brightness, flicker and hiding power. The advantage of copper powder is that it is more pink than copper and has a strong sense of metal, but its disadvantages are poor chemical resistance, heavy ratio, large dosage, poor temperature resistance and weather resistance.

In most cases, electrostatic spray gun is used for painting, because the product contains metal pigments, in the use of electrostatic gun construction should ensure that the system is well grounded, set a low electrostatic voltage and powder output, to prevent the occurrence of ignition phenomenon during spraying. After long-term spraying, there may be a lot of metal powder accumulation in the discharge needle of the spray gun, requiring the construction worker to arrange the discharge needle regularly.

In most cases, because of the large error, it is not recommended to use the gloss meter to measure the gloss of the metal appearance film, and only use the visual comparison method to determine whether it is the same as the standard template.

Retrievability of metal powder coatings

For the powder made by the dry mixing method, because the separation phenomenon will occur during the spraying and recycling process, there will be a certain difference in the metal pigment content of the recovered powder and the new powder, which may lead to the different appearance of the coating film and the color bias phenomenon. This is due to the different properties between metallic pigments and powder particles. If a powder coating made by the adhesive fixation method is used, because the ratio between the metal pigment and the powder particles is relatively fixed, it is completely possible to recover the powder from scratch.

Erasability of metallic pigments

No matter the powder made by dry mixing method or adhesive fixing method, the erasability problem of metal pigments can not be completely solved. The only way to deal with erasability is to apply a clear coating to the metal powder coating.
