Electroplating is the process of plating a thin layer of other metals or alloys on certain metal surfaces using the principle of electrolysis. It is a process that uses electrolysis to attach a layer of metal film to the surface of metal or other material parts, thereby preventing metal oxidation (such as rust), improving wear resistance, conductivity, reflectivity, corrosion resistance (copper sulfate, etc.) and enhancing beauty.
Electroplating is divided into specific processes such as copper plating, gold plating, silver plating, chrome plating, nickel plating and zinc plating. In the manufacturing industry, zinc plating, nickel plating and chrome plating are the most widely used. And there must be some difference between these three, right?
01-Galvanizing
Definition: Galvanizing refers to a surface treatment technology that coats a layer of zinc on the surface of metals, alloys or other materials to achieve beauty and rust prevention.

02-Nickel plating
Definition: The method of plating a layer of nickel on metal or some non-metal by electrolysis or chemical method is called nickel plating.
Features: Beautiful, can be used for decoration, high price, slightly complicated process, the color is silvery white with yellow.

03-Chrome plating
Definition: Chromium is a bright white metal with a slight blue tint. The method of plating a layer of chromium on metal or some non-metal by electrolysis or chemical method is called chrome plating.
Features: There are two types of chrome plating. The first is for decoration, with bright appearance and good abrasion resistance. The anti-rust ability is not as good as zinc plating, but better than oxidation; the second is to increase the hardness and wear resistance of metal parts, which is the functionality of the parts.
Application: Bright decorative parts, tools, faucets, etc. on home appliances, electronics and other products.

The most basic difference between the three types of electroplating
1. Chrome plating mainly improves surface hardness, beautiful and rust-proof. Chromium plating has good chemical stability and does not react in alkali, sulfide, nitric acid and most organic acids, but it can dissolve in hydrohalic acid (such as hydrochloric acid) and hot sulfuric acid. Because chromium does not change color, it can maintain its reflective ability for a long time when used, which is better than silver and nickel. The process is generally electroplating.
2. Nickel plating is mainly wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and rust-proof. The thickness is generally thinner. The process is divided into electroplating and chemical.
3. Zinc plating is mainly for beauty and rust prevention. Zn is an active metal that can react with acid, so it has poor corrosion resistance and is the cheapest of the three.
4. Cost difference: chrome plating is the most expensive, nickel is the second, and zinc is the cheapest. Among them, we must distinguish between rack plating and barrel plating. Rack plating is expensive, and barrel plating is cheap.
5. Color distinction: chrome plating is bright white, nickel plating is a little yellow, and zinc plating is silvery white (there are also colored zinc, gray zinc, matte chrome, bright chrome, white nickel, black nickel, etc.
