In the fast-moving field of technology, additive manufacturing, often referred to as 3D printing, has become a game-changer. By depositioning digital designs into tangible objects, layer by layer, 3D printing is reshaping different areas such as manufacturing and healthcare.
What is 3D printing?
It involves constructing a three-dimensional object from a digital file by adding material layer by layer. In contrast to traditional subtractive manufacturing, which requires cutting materials, additive manufacturing builds objects from scratch, allowing for detailed design and complex geometries. It is suitable for different materials such as plastics, metals and composites, providing significant production flexibility.

Types of 3D printing technology
Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM): This technology represents one of the most widespread types of 3D printing. FDM uses an extruder to melt solid filaments made of thermoplastics, which are then deposited layer after layer on a print bed. Its advantage is simplicity; FDM systems are inexpensive and offer a wide range of materials, making them suitable for prototyping and manufacturing functional parts.
Stereolithography (SLA): In this method, a solid layer is cured by using ultraviolet light generated by a UV laser on the surface of a liquid resin. This method produces very accurate prototypes on both micro and macro scales due to its high accuracy.
Digital Light Processing (DLP): Digital light projectors cure resin in DLP, similar to SLA. It is fast compared to other processes and offers high resolution, making it useful when producing small-scale, highly detailed models.
Binder jetting: A powdered material that is bonded together with a liquid binder is characteristic of this type. Full-color prototypes can be achieved by binder jetting of multiple materials, thus offering many creative possibilities at once.
