There are many kinds and specifications of profiles, and they are widely used, and they play a very important role in rolling production.

Profiles are objects with certain geometric shapes made of iron or steel and materials with certain strength and toughness through rolling, extrusion, casting and other processes. This kind of material has a certain appearance size, a certain shape of the section, and a certain mechanical and physical properties. Profiles can be used alone or further processed into other manufactured products, often used in building structures and manufacturing installation. Mechanical engineers can choose the specific shape, material, heat treatment state, mechanical properties and other parameters of the profile according to the design requirements, and then segment the profile according to the specific size and shape requirements, and then further processing or heat treatment to meet the design accuracy requirements. The material, specification and size of the profile can refer to the corresponding national standards.

There are four common classification methods:

The distinction between large, medium and small is actually not strict. There is also a way to distinguish by a single weight (kg/m). It is generally believed that the single weight below 5 kg/m is a small profile, the single weight of 5 ~ 20 kg/m is a medium profile, and the single weight of more than 20 kg/m is a large profile.
