3-axis machining refers to machining of three axes (X, Y, and Z axes) using CNC machine tools. This machining method can produce parts and components with high precision and complex shapes. In 3-axis machining, the machine tool will perform machining operations according to pre-designed CAD drawings to achieve the required size and shape.
3-axis machining can generally produce parts with relatively simple shapes. The main features are:
1. Usually flat or simple curved surfaces. In 3-axis machining, machining can only be performed along the three directions of X, Y, and Z, so only relatively simple geometric shapes can be machined.
2. The aspect ratio is relatively small. Due to the limited working range of the machine tool, longer parts often require multiple machining steps for machining.
3. High precision. CNC machine tools can control the motion trajectory of the machining tool to achieve high-precision machining.
4. Slow machining speed. Since 3-axis machining is limited by the working range of the machine tool and the shape of the tool, the machining speed is relatively slow.
3-axis machining is suitable for machining parts with simple shapes, high precision requirements, and moderate sizes. For large parts with complex shapes, higher-level CNC machine tools or other processing methods are required.
